The deployment of two NOMAD Traveler units is projected to save the cooperative about $150,000 this season by reducing demand charges from its energy supplier, Kansas Electric Power Cooperative (KEPCo). The pilot's definitive success prompted DSO to purchase two of the units for ongoing seasonal use.
For rural electric cooperatives like DSO, brief spikes in energy consumption can lead to substantial monthly bills based on the highest 15-to-60-minute interval of usage. The two NOMAD Traveler 1MW/2MWh units were seamlessly integrated into DSO's distribution network with a setup time of less than one day and no additional permitting required.
